Bridlington Gold Shines a Spotlight on Local Macmillan Coffee Mornings This September

Tuesday 8th September 2026

By Bridlington Gold Radio Editor

Bridlington Gold Radio is calling on residents, businesses and community groups across the town to help shine a spotlight on this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning events — with free publicity offered throughout September.

Listeners and website visitors will be able to discover local Coffee Mornings taking place in homes, workplaces, cafés, community centres and venues across Bridlington, as the station pledges to support every host doing their bit for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Throughout the month, Bridlington Gold will feature selected events on‑air, on its website’s Community Calendar, and across our Facebook page, helping organisers boost attendance and raise vital funds for people living with cancer.

Residents hosting a Coffee Morning can submit their details — including date, time, location and any special plans — by emailing info@bridlingtongold.co.uk or by completing the online form on our Communty Calendar

Macmillan Coffee Mornings have become one of the UK’s most recognisable charity traditions, bringing people together over cake, conversation and community spirit. Bridlington Gold is proud to support every cuppa poured for a great cause and we hope to help local hosts fill their seats and raise as much as possible this September.

History of Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning began in 1990, when a small local fundraising group came up with a simple idea: invite people for coffee and ask them to donate the cost of their drink to Macmillan Cancer Support. The concept proved so effective that it was rolled out nationally the following year, with 2,600 supporters taking part in 1991.

Since then, the event has grown into one of the UK’s biggest and longest‑running charity fundraisers. Today, Coffee Mornings are held everywhere from kitchens and offices to schools, community halls and even unusual locations — including underground mines, jet fighters and Antarctica.

The annual event typically takes place on the last Friday of September, though hosts are free to organise gatherings at any time of year. Over the decades, Coffee Mornings have raised hundreds of millions of pounds, with more than £310 million collected since 1990 to support people living with cancer.

Macmillan relies heavily on public donations, and Coffee Morning has become a cornerstone of its fundraising, helping provide nursing care, information services and emotional support for millions of people across the UK.
