A Bridlington man has been prosecuted after dumping household waste on a footpath in the town.

Jack Pasmore, of Ferndale Terrace, appeared at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21st September, where he pleaded guilty to abandoning waste in nearby Nelson Street.

The household waste found dumped on a path in Nelson Street, Bridlington, in March.

Pasmore was fined £400, ordered to pay £200 in costs, and given a £160 victim surcharge, totalling £760.

The court heard that streetscene enforcement officers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council discovered several bags of household rubbish left inside a cardboard box on the pavement in Nelson Street on 4th March this year.

Pasmore admitted placing the waste next to a wheelie bin, wrongly believing it would be collected with the bin’s contents. He later forgot about the rubbish and failed to check whether it had been removed.

Residents are reminded that they are responsible for disposing of their own waste properly — either inside household wheelie bins provided by the council or by taking larger items to a household waste recycling site.

Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Our bin collection teams can’t take any waste placed next to wheelie bins. Residents should know that and always put rubbish inside their bins. If waste is left on the street, like this, we will take action. Abandoning waste is never acceptable.”

Anyone caught fly-tipping in the East Riding could face a fixed penalty of up to £1,000, or an unlimited fine or imprisonment if prosecuted in court. Vehicles used in fly-tipping offences can also be seized and destroyed.

Residents can report fly-tipping or suspicious activity by calling 01482 393939 or visiting the council’s website. People are advised not to touch dumped waste or approach anyone seen fly-tipping. To find your nearest recycling site, visit www.eastriding.gov.uk/recycling.
