Humberside Police and FraudWatch warn residents about spoofed 101 calls targeting Bridlington households.

Bridlington residents are being urged to stay alert after Humberside Police issued a fresh Fraud Alert warning that criminals are calling members of the public while pretending to be police officers — even faking the official 101 non‑emergency number.

According to the FraudWatch Project, fraudsters are using spoofing software to disguise their real caller ID, making it appear as though the call is coming from a trusted organisation such as the police, a bank or a government agency.

These calls may be automated or involve a real person, but officers stress that both are fake.

Police are reminding residents that:

• A genuine officer will never call unexpectedly to ask for personal details, bank information or cryptocurrency credentials.

• You will never be asked to withdraw money, transfer funds to a “safe account”, or purchase high‑value items as part of an investigation.

🚨 What to Do if You Receive a Suspicious Call

• Hang up immediately if the call feels strange or you’re pressured to act quickly.

• Wait 10 minutes before making another call — fraudsters can keep the line open.

• Use a different phone if possible.

• Dial 101 manually to check the caller’s identity.

• Do not trust caller ID, even if it shows an official number. Spoofing can make any number appear genuine.

The warning follows national coverage on BBC Morning Live, which highlighted how criminals have faked official telephone numbers — including those belonging to senior policing figures — to steal thousands of pounds.
