Corner Bar Forced to Close After Major Leak – Owners Vow Swift Return

The Corner Bar, in Bridlington has been forced to close temporarily following extensive damage caused by a major leak in the property above the venue. The incident, which has affected key areas of the bar, means the popular seafront pub will remain shut for several days – and possibly weeks – while repairs take place.

Owners Rob and Laura Young, who have been associated with The Corner Bar for an impressive 24 years, say they are “devastated” by the setback but are already working tirelessly behind the scenes to reopen as soon as possible.

The closure comes at a particularly frustrating time for the couple, who only reopened The Corner Bar on Good Friday, 3rd April, following strong calls from the local community to bring the venue back under their direct management. After years of leasing the bar out, they decided earlier this year to take full control once again – a move welcomed by regulars who were eager to see the pub restored to its former friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Their decision followed the successful turnaround of their sister venue, The Lansdowne, which they also took back from lease two years ago. Since then, The Lansdowne has flourished into a thriving locals’ pub, known for its warm environment, returning visitors, and dog‑friendly charm – complete with a treat jar on the bar and fresh water bowls for four‑legged guests.

With the support of area manager Sarah Louise Egan, and the dedication of their loyal staff across both venues, Rob and Laura had hoped to replicate that success at The Corner Bar.

Although the leak has temporarily halted those plans, the owners remain determined to bring The Corner Bar back stronger than ever.

In the meantime, customers are encouraged to visit The Lansdowne, which remains fully open and will serve as the main hub for updates, community support, and of course, a friendly drink while repairs are completed.
