BRIDLINGTON — A 55-year-old woman remains in police custody today after she was discovered asleep at the wheel of her car while nearly four times over the legal drink-driving limit.
Humberside Police officers swarmed an address on Wayside Crescent, Bridlington, at approximately 10:00 AM on Thursday, 17th September 2026. The response followed urgent public reports detailing a suspected drink driver operating a vehicle in the local neighborhood.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located the stationary vehicle and discovered the female suspect fast asleep in the front seat. Eyewitnesses at the scene informed authorities that they had observed the woman driving the vehicle to the residential location immediately before she drifted off to sleep.
Officers quickly woke the driver and demanded a roadside breathalyser test. The woman failed the test dramatically, recording a reading of 123 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath. For context, the legal driving limit in England and Wales stands at 35 micrograms, putting her breath sample at roughly three-and-a-half times the legal threshold.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police confirmed that the 55-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is currently being held for questioning at a local police station.
Local authorities continue to urge anyone with further information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact Humberside Police via their non-emergency channels.
