Flamborough RNLI’s volunteer crew faced a demanding 24 hours over the weekend, responding to three separate emergencies along the East Yorkshire coast.
Shout One – Saturday 15th August, 1:17pm
HM Coastguard tasked Flamborough RNLI to assist a broken‑down boat off South Landing. The crew launched and quickly located the vessel, assessing the situation before safely towing it to South Shore, Bridlington. The lifeboat returned to South Landing at 2:38pm, where the volunteer crew and shore crew refuelled and cleaned both the lifeboat and launch tractor, ensuring they were ready for the next call.
Shout Two – Saturday 15th August, 3:25pm
Just over an hour later, the crew were tasked again following reports of four adults in difficulty on paddleboards at Five Arches, near North Landing. The two males and two females were taken safely aboard Forever Yibba (B‑959) and landed at North Landing beach, where they were met by Coastguard personnel. The lifeboat returned to station at 4:20pm, with the crew once again washing down and refuelling equipment ready for service.
Shout Three – Sunday 16th August, 7:27am
The busy weekend continued into Sunday morning when HM Coastguard tasked Flamborough RNLI to a kayaker east of Breil Newk who had entered the water and was unable to climb back onto his kayak. The casualty was becoming cold and losing strength, but the RNLI crew arrived swiftly, recovering him onto Forever Yibba (B‑959) and administering casualty care. He was then transferred into the care of the Coastguard Rescue Team at North Landing. The lifeboat returned to South Landing at 8:30am, where another volunteer crew were already preparing for their scheduled Sunday training exercise.
Across three shouts in less than 24 hours, Flamborough RNLI once again demonstrated their professionalism, dedication and readiness to respond 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
