BRIDLINGTON — Passers-by and daily commuters at Bridlington railway station can finally look up to check the time once again, following the successful repair of two of the building's most prominent historic timepieces.
The long-awaited restoration was confirmed on Tuesday morning after the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership (YCCRP) shared a video on social media showcasing the clocks fully functional and ticking in perfect synchronization. The fix targets two specific, high-profile dials that had spent months frozen out of time: the external clock mounted proudly onto the front facade of the building, and the iconic internal dial situated directly above the main ticket office booking windows.
A Grand Edwardian Legacy
The restoration marks a major victory for local heritage enthusiasts. Bridlington station holds a proud Grade II-listed status, primarily celebrating its magnificent 1912 Edwardian concourse architecture. For months, the non-functioning gears of the ticket office clock stood out as a frustrating blemish on the station's beautifully preserved interior, which is widely regarded as one of the most characterful travel gateways on the Yorkshire Coast.
The successful repair comes amidst a multi-million-pound "Access for All" station overhaul spearheaded by Network Rail. The ongoing enhancements have brought modern, step-free lift access to the historic platforms while carefully safeguarding the station's original architectural fabric.

The ticking clocks now look down upon another celebrated nod to the station's coastal history: the Barrow Boy sculpture. Unveiled on the main concourse by the YCCRP and Northern Rail, the stunning five-foot bronze monument—crafted by renowned local sculptor Stephen Carvill—commemorates the local school children who used wooden wheelbarrows to haul holidaymakers’ luggage to seafront hotels from the 1930s up until the 1980s.
With the iconic clocks ticking in harmony with the bronze statue and the station’s famous, award-winning platform floral displays, Bridlington has successfully re-tied its past to its present.
