Bridlington Gold Radio Highlighted in Parliamentary Call to Protect Local Journalism

Bridlington Gold has been highlighted in Parliament as part of a call to protect and support independent local journalism — and the station has issued its thanks following the recognition.
Bridlington MP Charlie Dewhirst said strong local media plays a vital role in keeping residents informed about decisions made on their behalf and in holding organisations to account. He also emphasised that outlets like Bridlington Gold are deeply rooted in the communities they serve, offering far more than just news updates.
While he described East Yorkshire’s local media landscape as “reassuringly strong”, the MP warned that many parts of the UK have already lost access to independent local journalism, and that pressures on the sector continue to grow.

Mr Dewhirst raised the issue with a Government Minister shortly before Parliament prorogued and said he is now in discussions about what further support could be offered. He added that he will continue pressing for measures to ensure areas like Bridlington are not left behind.
Bridlington Gold Radio has thanked the MP for recognising the importance of local journalism and for championing the role of community‑based broadcasters in Parliament.
