Bridlington’s community spirit and local talent took centre stage this week as the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s annual Chairman’s Awards celebrated outstanding achievements across the region.

Now in its 26th year, the ceremony recognised individuals and groups whose dedication, skill and service have made a meaningful difference to their communities — with Bridlington shining brightly among this year’s honours.

Bridlington’s Sporting Star Takes the Spotlight

Young boxer Oliver Male, one of Bridlington’s rising sporting talents, was honoured with the Chairman’s Sport Award – Talented Performer. Oliver’s remarkable journey has seen him become a national champion, a European gold medallist, and a member of the England Boxing team. His commitment, discipline and ambition continue to push him toward a future professional career.

Community Heroes Recognised

The New Pasture Lane Community Centre — a lifeline for many in Bridlington — received the Chairman’s Community Award (Group Category). The centre supports more than 1,900 people every month, offering affordable meals, food support, social activities and essential services. Its welcoming, dignified approach has made it one of the town’s most trusted community hubs.

Tributes to Bravery and Service

The ceremony also included commendations recognising extraordinary bravery and dedication shown during a tragic coastal incident earlier this year. Awards were presented to individuals and emergency service teams whose courage and professionalism made a profound impact during an extremely challenging event.

Councillor Liam Dealtry, Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, praised all nominees, saying their achievements “are a credit to our communities and a reminder of the strength, compassion and resilience found across the East Riding.”
