Fire Service Urges Local Businesses to Review Their Fire Safety Duties

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is urging business owners, landlords and duty holders to make sure they are meeting their legal responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
The legislation requires every premises to have a designated Responsible Person — typically the employer, owner or anyone in control of the building — who must ensure fire risk assessments are kept up to date and that all fire safety measures are properly maintained.
The service says routine checks are essential to protect staff, customers and property, and has highlighted several key areas that must be regularly inspected:

Fire detection and alarm systems

Emergency lighting

Fire doors and signage

Fire‑fighting equipment
Consistent maintenance, the service warns, ensures these systems work correctly in an emergency and helps safeguard everyone inside the building.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s Protection team is encouraging Responsible Persons to review their maintenance schedules and make sure their arrangements remain suitable for the building and the activities taking place within it.
