A campaign aimed at improving some of Bridlington's most neglected buildings is helping to restore civic pride, support regeneration and encourage further investment across the town.
The Property Pride campaign, led by Bridlington Ambassadors CIC and community volunteer group Brightening Up Bridlington (BUB), has seen significant progress since its launch. Working alongside East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the initiative identifies buildings in need of repair and renovation, with support from the council's planning enforcement team where required.
A total of 35 properties were identified as requiring remedial work. Encouragingly, more than two-thirds of those buildings have already been restored, are currently undergoing improvements, or have renovation work planned.
Among the most notable projects are improvements to the former Hull Co-operative Society building, several commercial properties along King Street, the former M&Co building on Prince Street, now home to a children's café and fun club, and a long-abandoned property on Queen Street that is being restored to its former Victorian appearance.
The regeneration effort is also helping to create a more vibrant town centre. Since February, 49 new independent businesses have opened across Bridlington, adding to the town's growing visitor appeal. New ventures include restaurants, pubs, children's clothing stores, a bridal shop and even a witch-themed emporium.

As part of wider investment in the town, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has also supported the creation of two new murals through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). The artworks celebrate Bridlington's history, culture and local wildlife while helping to create attractive new visitor landmarks.
The Property Pride campaign forms part of the wider Clear Hold Build programme, a multi-agency initiative aimed at tackling serious and organised crime and antisocial behaviour in Bridlington South Ward. The scheme brings together East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Police and a range of partner organisations to help improve the area for residents, businesses and visitors.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's cabinet member for communities and public protection, said:
"We're proud to support Bridlington to thrive, and to help communities to improve their local area."
Martyn Coltman, a Bridlington Ambassador, added:
"We're proud to support Bridlington and encourage pride in our town. Many of these buildings are a century old or more and are a key part of our seaside heritage. Repairs and renovations are a great way to enhance the look of our town and encourage more visitors to the area."
The success of the campaign highlights how partnership working between community groups, local businesses and public organisations is helping to preserve Bridlington's historic character while supporting future growth and investment.
