Humberside Police, Co-op staff and Headlands School are working together to tackle ongoing anti-social behaviour involving groups of young people gathering outside the Co-op store on Marton Gate, Bridlington.

Police say they have received reports of school-aged children congregating in the supermarket car park, riding bicycles into traffic and causing disruption to both members of the public and store employees.

Officers have described the behaviour as unacceptable and have warned that it will not be tolerated.

In a statement, police urged parents and guardians to speak with young people about the dangers of irresponsible behaviour around roads, as well as the potential consequences of anti-social conduct.

A spokesperson said they are actively working alongside Co-op staff and teachers from Headlands School to address the issue and find a long-term solution.

Anti-Social Behaviour Powers Available

Humberside Police highlighted that tackling anti-social behaviour often requires partnership working between police, schools, local authorities and the wider community.

Under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, a range of measures are available to help agencies respond quickly and effectively to incidents of anti-social behaviour.

These powers include:

  • Civil injunctions
  • Criminal Behaviour Orders
  • Public Spaces Protection Orders
  • Community Protection Notices
  • Dispersal powers
  • Closure powers

The legislation also introduced measures such as the Community Remedy and Anti-Social Behaviour Case Reviews, giving victims and local communities a stronger voice in how incidents are dealt with.

How to Report Concerns

Anyone who experiences anti-social behaviour or has information about incidents is encouraged to report it via the Humberside Police website, through the force's online web chat service, or by calling the non-emergency number 101.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or submitting information online.
