Bridlington Healthcare Champion Jaya Authunuri Wins Prestigious National Award

BRIDLINGTON — Local healthcare hero Jaya Authunuri has been named the UK’s Community Pharmacist of the Year at the prestigious C+D Awards 2026, held at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Jaya, the Superintendent Pharmacist and co-owner of West Hill Pharmacy, received the national accolade in recognition of his outstanding dedication to preventative healthcare and community outreach across East Yorkshire.

Sponsored by Teva UK, the award celebrates pharmacists who go above and beyond the traditional role of dispensing medicine — improving local health outcomes through innovation and compassion.

Stepping Outside the Counter to Fight a ‘Silent Killer’

Rather than waiting for patients to walk through the door, Jaya has spent years taking healthcare directly to the community.

He is widely known for his free blood pressure clinics and interactive health kiosk inside Morrisons Bridlington, which he personally funded to help catch cardiovascular issues early.

Jaya has long warned that high blood pressure is a “silent killer”, urging residents to take advantage of free local pharmacy resources before minor issues become medical emergencies.

Expanding Care and Protecting Local Access

The award also follows Jaya’s proactive efforts to secure vital pharmacy access for Bridlington residents. Together with business partner Aswini Gaali, he recently expanded operations by acquiring Marton Road Pharmacy, ensuring that high-quality clinical services remain available locally.

As an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist, Clinical Director, and Cardiometabolic Lead, Jaya’s advanced clinical work focuses on lipid management and other preventative care initiatives within local primary care networks.
