Fraud Alert: Scammers Targeting Halifax Customers Across Bridlington and East Yorkshire

Bridlington residents are being urged to stay alert after Humberside Police and the Fraud Watch Project issued a warning about impersonation fraud linked to the Halifax brand’s upcoming change to Lloyds.

Lloyds Banking Group confirmed that Halifax customers will receive official updates through trusted channels — such as the Halifax app, online banking, email, or letter — but the bank will never ask anyone to move money, transfer funds, or share security details as part of this rebrand.

If anyone contacts you asking to do so, it’s a scam.

Local police say fraudsters may try to exploit the change by calling residents and pretending to be from the bank. Anyone concerned should visit their branch or call their bank using the number on the back of their card, or dial 159 for secure banking advice.

• Don’t trust caller ID. Scammers can make their number look local — even Bridlington‑based.

• Hang up on cold calls. It’s perfectly fine to end the call immediately.

• Wait before calling back on landlines. The line may still be connected to the fraudster.

• Police or banks will never send couriers to collect cards, cash, or valuables. Any such request is fraudulent.
