Bridlington Round Table has issued an emotional appeal after discovering that Santa’s Sleigh — a much‑loved part of the town’s Christmas tradition — has been robbed.
The charity revealed that the storage unit where the sleigh is kept was broken into, and multiple items were taken. Volunteers say the theft has left them “deeply disappointed and frustrated”, particularly because the sleigh exists solely to bring joy to local children and raise money for community causes.
Each December, Round Table members take Santa’s Sleigh around Bridlington, visiting neighbourhoods and collecting donations that support local families, charities and community groups. The organisation says it is difficult to understand why anyone would target something created entirely for the benefit of the town.
In a statement, the group said the thieves “didn’t pay for it, didn’t work for it, and certainly didn’t have permission to take it”, adding that the act shows a disregard for “the difference between right and wrong”.
Round Table members emphasised that the theft is not just a loss for the charity, but for children and families across Bridlington who look forward to the sleigh’s annual appearance.
Despite the setback, volunteers have vowed to replace what has been stolen and ensure that Santa’s Sleigh will still be out spreading festive cheer this Christmas.
The charity is appealing for information and is asking anyone who may know where the missing items ended up to contact them privately. They also encouraged residents to share the appeal to help spread the word.
Their message to the culprits was clear: “You can steal things from the sleigh. You won’t steal Christmas from Bridlington.”
