With Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coast experiencing a prolonged spell of hot, dry weather, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is asking local residents and visitors to take simple steps to help prevent fires.
The service says the current conditions mean fires can start easily and spread rapidly, putting wildlife, green spaces and nearby homes at risk. Even a single spark can lead to a serious incident, especially on dry grassland around popular walking routes such as Sewerby Cliffs, Danes Dyke and the Wolds.
How You Can Help Protect Bridlington’s Wildlife and Community
To reduce unnecessary callouts and keep people safe, the fire service is urging everyone to follow key safety advice:

Take litter home or use a bin – glass bottles and cans can magnify sunlight and ignite dry grass.

Avoid lighting bonfires while conditions remain extremely dry.

Choose a picnic instead of disposable BBQs, which can easily spark fires on dry ground.

Ensure cigarettes are fully extinguished before placing them in a bin.

Never throw cigarette ends from vehicles – roadside verges around Bridlington are particularly vulnerable right now.

Call 999 immediately if you spot a fire.
A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue said that a little extra care from the public can make a big difference, helping protect the coastline, nature reserves and residential areas during this period of heightened risk.
