Bridlington’s long‑awaited expansion of NHS dentistry has taken another major step forward, with East Riding of Yorkshire Council approving plans to convert the Crown Buildings in the town centre into a new NHS dental practice.
The approval follows earlier confirmation that two new NHS dental contracts worth more than £6 million have been awarded for Bridlington, creating capacity for up to 15,000 additional appointments.

The progress comes as Charlie Dewhirst MP continues to raise Bridlington’s health priorities at national level. A video released today shows the MP speaking in the House of Commons, where he highlighted the urgent need to improve NHS dentistry in Bridlington and pressed for updates on local healthcare concerns.
Tonight, Charlie Dewhirst will join the Bridlington Health Forum meeting at Christ Church from 6.30pm, where discussions will focus on dentistry provision and the ongoing campaign against the proposed closure of the Bridlington Hospital Care Unit. He recently shared details of the NHS online survey and public engagement sessions relating to the Care Unit’s future.
Dewhirst says he will continue pushing for better access to healthcare for Bridlington residents, adding that he intends to follow up on commitments made in Parliament.
The developments mark a significant moment for the town, with hopes that the new dental contracts and facilities will begin to ease long‑standing pressure on NHS dentistry in Bridlington.
