A multi‑agency rescue unfolded at Flamborough Head on Thursday 2nd April after two people became cut off by the rapidly rising tide just ahead of the Easter weekend.

Bridlington and Filey Coastguard Rescue Teams were called out alongside the Flamborough RNLI lifeboat following reports that the pair were stranded and unable to reach safety as the sea closed in around them.

The lifeboat crew quickly located the casualties, but strong tidal movement and difficult inshore conditions meant they couldn’t be reached safely by boat. A rescue swimmer from Bridlington Coastguard entered the water to assess the situation, but with chest‑deep water and a powerful tide, it was judged too dangerous to attempt an extraction.

With the tide continuing to rise, a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was requested. The aircraft carried out a precise winch operation, lifting both casualties to safety and transferring them to the clifftop, where Coastguard teams were waiting.

The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly conditions can change along our coastline, particularly during busy holiday periods. A simple walk can become hazardous within minutes.
