A new cycle repair station is launched at East Riding Leisure Bridlington by Steve Wigley, the council’s principal officer for road safety (sustainable transport), Hayley Crawford, customer service assistant at the centre, and its general manager Russell Robinson.

Cyclists in Bridlington now have a new place to make quick, on‑the‑go repairs, thanks to a free self‑service cycle repair station installed outside East Riding Leisure Bridlington.

The new kit is part of an East Riding of Yorkshire Council project to support safer, more confident cycling across the region. Six stations have been fitted at leisure centres countywide, with the Bridlington unit positioned directly opposite the main entrance for easy access.

Each repair station includes essential tools and a bike pump, allowing riders to tighten bolts, adjust brakes, inflate tyres or carry out other minor fixes without needing to get home or find a workshop. The project has been funded by Active Travel England, which promotes cycling as a healthy, sustainable and convenient way to travel.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said the stations were designed to help riders stay mobile: “We’ve fitted this equipment at easy‑to‑reach locations to help cyclists if they are out and about and need to make urgent repairs. Whether people are commuting, exercising or exploring our beautiful area, these repair stations will help ensure any minor mechanical issues don’t stop people getting out on a bike.”

Tim Hicks, the council’s health and wellbeing facilities manager, added that the scheme gives communities extra confidence to choose active travel: “This scheme supports and encourages people to cycle with confidence, knowing there is a safe, accessible place to stop if they need to make a quick DIY repair.”

Cyclists can also scan a QR code on each station for simple ‘How To’ guides, making the equipment suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders.

A launch demonstration event for the Bridlington repair station will take place on Thursday 14 May, 1pm–3pm, where the council’s road safety team will show how to use the kit. The team will also be promoting the council’s free e‑bike demonstration project and bespoke adult cycle training, both currently running across the East Riding.
