Humberside Police guidance on when to call 999, 101 or report crime online using Bobbi.

Humberside Police have issued fresh guidance to help residents understand the quickest and most effective way to report incidents — whether it’s a 999 emergency, a 101 call, or something that can be handled online.

The force says choosing the right route ensures people get the support they need as quickly as possible, especially during busy periods.

A 999 call should always be made when there is immediate danger or a crime is happening right now. This includes situations where someone is at risk, a crime is in progress, or urgent police attendance is required.

For matters that need police attention but aren’t urgent — such as suspicious behaviour that isn’t posing a threat, or incidents witnessed after they’ve happened — 101 is the correct option.

For non‑urgent issues that can be reported online, the force is encouraging people to use Bobbi, their virtual assistant. Bobbi guides users to the right place on the Humberside Police website to report non‑emergency crime, antisocial behaviour that doesn’t require an immediate response, or vehicle‑related concerns. It can also connect people to an advisor if extra support is needed.

A spokesperson said the aim is simple: “Choosing the right route means your report gets exactly where it needs to go, clearly and efficiently, helping you make the right call every time.”
