The aim is to provide residents with access to advice and support about employment in the sector.

Bridlington residents are being given the chance to explore rewarding careers in adult social care thanks to a new initiative designed to build skills, confidence, and employment opportunities in the sector.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has teamed up with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) to deliver the Widening Access Demonstrator (WAD) programme — a scheme that opens doors for local people to discover and access roles within adult social care.

Bridlington has been chosen as a key focus area, with training sessions, practical placements, and a dedicated recruitment fair planned to connect residents with employers. The recruitment fair will take place on Wednesday, 8th July, from 10am to 12pm at the Crown Community Building, Quay Road, Bridlington (YO16 4LY).

At the heart of the programme is the SEA approach — Sessions, Experience, and Application:

  • Sessions introduce adult social care, its values, and essential skills through interactive learning.

  • Experience offers shadowing and placements, giving participants hands-on insight into care roles.

  • Application provides tailored support with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation.

These pathways align with the Choose Care campaign, connecting participants to live job opportunities and helping them take their first steps into a fulfilling career.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adults, health and care at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“The Widening Access Demonstrator programme is a fantastic opportunity for Bridlington, helping people of all ages discover the wide range of rewarding careers available in adult social care. Whether you’re leaving education, returning to work, or looking for a career change, this programme will help you take those first steps into a fulfilling career.”

Tina Jenkinson, Head of the Breakthrough Programme for Work, Health and Skills at NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB, added:

“We’re delighted to bring the WAD programme to Bridlington. It will help build a skilled local workforce while supporting residents to access meaningful employment opportunities.”

Residents interested in adult social care careers are encouraged to attend the upcoming recruitment fair and explore opportunities through the Choose Care campaign. For more information, visit: Choose Care – Caring as a career in East Riding and follow their social media pages for updates.
