Charlie Dewhirst MP attending Armed Forces Week events in Parliament
East Yorkshire MP Charlie Dewhirst has paid tribute to the region’s long‑standing military heritage and the sacrifices made by serving personnel as the UK marks Armed Forces Week.
Mr Dewhirst said he was “pleased to show [his] support for our brave servicemen and women” during a series of events in Westminster celebrating the work of the British Armed Forces.
He highlighted Yorkshire’s deep military roots — from regiments with histories stretching back to the years following the Civil War, to East Yorkshire’s former RAF bases that played key roles during the Second World War.
As part of Armed Forces Week, Parliament welcomed units from across the UK to showcase equipment and speak with MPs about their work. Mr Dewhirst said it was a “privilege” to meet them and express East Yorkshire’s thanks on behalf of local residents.
He also attended the launch of Help for Heroes’ new manifesto, The People’s Promise, which calls for improved support for veterans and their families. Mr Dewhirst said he “strongly supports” the charity’s campaign.
“We owe a great debt of gratitude to our British military, past and present, and we must always have their backs,” he said. “Thank you to all who serve.”
