Residents and visitors attending this year's Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Bridlington will be able to take advantage of free parking across East Riding of Yorkshire Council-operated car parks, while temporary road closures will be in place to allow the annual parade and service to take place safely.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed that parking charges will be suspended in council-operated on-street and off-street car parks from 8am until 6pm on Sunday 8th November, helping people attend remembrance events across the area.
Motorists are reminded that although parking charges are being waived, all usual parking restrictions remain in force, including regulations covering disabled bays, maximum stay limits and controlled parking zones.
Bridlington Remembrance Service
The annual Bridlington Remembrance Service will take place at the War Memorial Gardens on Wellington Road.
The event will begin with a parade stepping off from Station Approach at 10.40am, before arriving at the War Memorial Gardens for the main remembrance service at 10.55am. Following the service, participants will continue in parade formation to King Street.
Organisers are inviting the community to come together to remember and honour members of the Armed Forces community, past and present.
Free Parking Options
In addition to the council's free parking initiative, organisers have highlighted that free parking will also be available at the Harbour Commissioners and Palace car parks for those attending the service. Drivers should note that Palace Car Park will close at 10.15am and reopen after the event.
Visitors attending the service can also make use of refreshments and a warm indoor space available at Christ Church.
Temporary Road Closures
To ensure public safety during the event, several roads in the town centre will be temporarily closed:
Wellington Road
- Closed between 7am and 11.30am
- Between Prospect Street and St George's Avenue
Rolling Road Closures (10.10am to 11.30am)
- Quay Road (between Moorfield Road and Prospect Street)
- Prospect Street (between Quay Road and Beck Hill)
- Manor Street (between Prospect Street and King Street)
- King Street (entire length)
Additional Closure
- Beck Hill, between Beck Hill Car Park and Prospect Street
Roads will reopen once the parade has passed and it is safe to do so.
Poppy Appeal Merchandise Available
Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, members of the public can also support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal by purchasing merchandise from the Bridlington Town Council Offices, located at 2A Marshall Avenue, Bridlington, YO15 2DS.
A range of poppy-themed items is available, including wreaths, lapel pins and other fundraising merchandise. Suggested donations include £27 for a poppy wreath and £4 for a metal lapel pin, with many other items available for donations of the purchaser's choice.
As the nation prepares to honour those who served, organisers hope the combination of accessible parking, community support and remembrance activities will encourage strong attendance across Bridlington's commemorative events.
