Bridlington Sports Centre to Host Public Bikeability Training

Young cyclists in Bridlington can boost their skills and confidence this October as East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s road safety team hosts a two‑day Public Bikeability Level 1 and 2 course at Bridlington Sports Centre.

The training runs on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October, from 9.30am to 2.30pm, and costs £15. The course is open to children aged 11 and over, or 10‑year‑olds who missed Bikeability training in Year 6.

Participants will learn essential cycling skills, starting with a traffic‑free session on day one, before progressing to real‑road riding on day two. The programme covers:

• Basic bike set‑up and maintenance

• Using brakes and gears

• Riding one‑handed

• Slow riding and balance

• Looking behind while cycling

• Close‑control skills

• Navigating obstacles

Children will receive a hi‑vis vest, bike lights, a magazine, and Bikeability badges and certificates upon completion.

To take part, riders should bring a roadworthy bicycle and a correctly fitting helmet. A small number of bikes and helmets are available by prior arrangement for those who need them. All training is delivered by National Standard/Bikeability‑qualified instructors.

Parents are asked to ensure children bring a packed lunch, drink and snacks for both days.
