Help Available to Make Home Life More Affordable

Many households across Bridlington and the East Riding could be missing out on financial help that makes home life more affordable. Residents who are on a low income, working part‑time, self‑employed, receiving benefits, or have recently experienced a change in circumstances may be entitled to Council Tax Support — a scheme designed to ease the pressure of rising living costs.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the amount of help available depends on income, savings, household arrangements, and whether someone receives other benefits. Even homeowners and those in work may still qualify for assistance.

Applying is straightforward and could help reduce monthly outgoings for those struggling to keep up with bills. Find out more and apply at: Council Tax Support (East Riding of Yorkshire Council).

Extra Help Through the Crisis and Resilience Fund

Further support is available through the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) — a government scheme offering short‑term help for people on low incomes who face sudden money problems. Crisis payments can help residents manage emergencies such as a sudden loss of income, unexpected bills, or difficulty meeting essential day‑to‑day needs.

Housing payments provide short‑term financial support for residents receiving Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit, helping to prevent rent arrears, cover moving costs, and keep people in their homes.

The fund also offers benefit advice, budgeting support, and money management guidance to help residents improve their financial situation for the future. More information is available at: Crisis and Resilience Fund (East Riding of Yorkshire Council).

Council Statement

Councillor Nigel Wilkinson, Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance, said:

“We know that many households are continuing to feel the pressure of rising living costs, and some residents may not realise that help is available. This support can make a real difference to household budgets, whether you are working, self‑employed, receiving benefits, or have recently experienced a change in circumstances. I would encourage anyone who is struggling financially to check the support they are entitled to and take advantage of the additional help available.”
