A murder investigation is under way after a man died following a stabbing outside a property on First Avenue in Bridlington early this morning (Monday, 10th August 2026).
Emergency services were called at around 5.20am to reports of an altercation between two men, believed to be known to each other. One of the men suffered life‑threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died despite the efforts of medical staff. Work is ongoing to formally identify him and notify his next of kin.
A 24‑year‑old man was detained nearby shortly after the incident and arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in hospital receiving treatment for minor injuries sustained during the altercation. A knife has been recovered as part of the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Leanne Murphy, who is leading the enquiry, said officers were immediately deployed to the scene and have been carrying out extensive house‑to‑house enquiries, reviewing CCTV footage, and speaking to witnesses.
DCI Murphy said: “Whilst we are in the very early stages of our investigation, from our enquiries so far we have established that an altercation is believed to have occurred between the two men, who are thought to be associated to one another, leading to one of the men being stabbed and taken to hospital for treatment to life‑threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the man has since died in hospital.”
She urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the incident and thanked residents for their assistance so far.
“Multiple scene guards remain in place on Flamborough Road, First Avenue, and Alexandra Promenade as our investigation continues,” she added. “Crime Scene Investigators are carrying out their enquiries, and we would ask people to continue to avoid the area where possible.”
