Humberside Police say it has been a busy and varied weekend across Bridlington, with officers dealing with arrests on the seafront, nuisance motorcycle activity in Kirkham Park, and thousands of visitors enjoying the Sewerby Fun Weekend on the cliff tops.
During high‑visibility patrols on the seafront, Op Coastline officers identified a man wanted for offences. As they detained him, one officer was assaulted. A second, unrelated member of the public then assaulted another officer before fleeing through the crowds.
The suspect was quickly tracked via the town’s CCTV system, leading officers to a parked vehicle where he was found hiding underneath and arrested. Both men were taken into custody. Police say assaults on officers will not be tolerated.
Elsewhere, officers were on the Sewerby cliff tops engaging with families at the Bridlington Lions Fun Weekend. Crowds enjoyed attractions, stalls and even robot displays in the warm weather, with officers on hand to support organisers and chat with visitors.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team also responded to numerous reports of a nuisance motorcycle causing problems on Kirkham Park playing fields, an area intended for children and families. A Sergeant spotted the bike in the middle of the park, prompting the rider to try to escape before dumping the motorcycle and running off.
The bike was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. The masked rider later shouted from a distance asking if he could have it back. Officers were approached by a member of the public and several children who thanked them for removing what they described as a persistent nuisance.
On the way back to the station, officers encountered two high‑speed electric bikes that failed to stop and committed multiple road traffic offences. Although the riders escaped, police say they will continue efforts to stop dangerous and anti‑social riding of illegal machines.
Members of the public have told officers they feel intimidated by such bikes and consider them a dangerous nuisance. Anyone with information about where illegal motorcycles or e‑bikes are being stored is urged to contact police on 101, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
