Flamborough RNLI’s volunteer crew were called into action twice in quick succession on Sunday afternoon after HM Coastguard received reports of paddle boarders in difficulty near North Landing.
The first alert came at 12:07, prompting HM Coastguard to request the launch of the Flamborough lifeboat. The crew launched just six minutes later at 12:13, making a swift response to the unfolding incident.
On arrival at Five Arches, close to North Landing, the lifeboat crew located four people struggling with two paddle boards. All casualties were brought safely aboard and landed at North Landing, where they were handed into the care of the HM Coastguard Rescue Team.
As the lifeboat headed back to station, HM Coastguard tasked the crew again — this time to assist two further paddle boarders and a dog in difficulty near North Landing. One of the casualties had taken on water and required medical attention. The crew recovered both individuals and their dog, landing them safely at North Landing for further care from Coastguard personnel.
The lifeboat returned to South Landing at 13:16, where the volunteer crew and shore crew worked together to clean, refuel and prepare the lifeboat and launching tractor for the next service.
The successful double shout highlighted the dedication, professionalism and rapid response of Flamborough RNLI’s volunteer crew — once again demonstrating their commitment to saving lives at sea.
