Bridlington is preparing for a spectacular summer of sport as the town hosts world‑class athletes for the World Beach Pro Tour (BPT) — the first time the global competition has ever been staged in England.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is partnering with Volleyball England and local club Skyball Beach Volleyball Club to deliver the four‑day event from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th June.

The tournament sits between two other major fixtures — the NEVZA Senior Championships and the NEVZA Youth Beach Championships — both also taking place in Bridlington. Together, they will bring two full weeks of international beach volleyball to the resort, with all events free to watch and selected matches livestreamed online.

Councillor Nick Coultish, the council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said the event marks a major moment for the region.

“We are delighted to welcome this brand‑new event to Bridlington and build upon our long‑standing partnership with Volleyball England.

“We look forward to welcoming some of the world’s best volleyball players to East Yorkshire, which will provide a crucial tourism boost for local businesses.

“The Beach Pro Tour is the highest level of beach volleyball competition on the world stage. We hope this will inspire future generations of players, both across Yorkshire and the whole country.”

Among those competing will be two familiar faces: Yorkshire‑born Maks Makowski and Josh Cosgrove, who grew up playing on Belvedere Beach in Bridlington.

Maks said returning to compete on home sand is a dream come true.

“It means so much to me. Bridlington Beach has been like a second home to us for years. We have spent countless days there training and simply enjoying the game.

“To compete on the Beach Pro Tour at the first‑ever event in England, at a place that holds so many memories for me and my family, is incredibly exciting and something I'm very proud of.”

Josh echoed the sentiment.

“There’s something different about competing in front of a home crowd, in a place that means so much to you personally.

“It’s a real honour to represent Yorkshire and England on home sand.”
