Humberside Police are investigating a number of burglary reports across the East Riding of Yorkshire, prompting a renewed appeal for residents to take simple steps to protect their homes as the warmer months begin.

Detective Chief Inspector Lauren Clough said burglary remains an “incredibly intrusive crime” that can leave victims feeling vulnerable in their own homes. She is urging anyone who sees suspicious activity or has information that could help ongoing investigations to contact 101, as even small details “may be the missing piece of the puzzle”.

As part of Op Coastline and routine neighbourhood patrols, officers will be out across communities throughout the summer, speaking with residents and businesses about crime prevention and offering advice on how to keep properties secure.

Police say the lighter nights and warmer weather often mean people leave windows open or spend more time in their gardens, creating opportunities for offenders if homes are left unsecured.

DCI Clough added:

  • Residents should ensure doors — especially back doors and conservatories — are locked when not in use.

  • Windows should be closed when leaving a room or the property.

  • Taking these small steps can significantly increase home security and deter opportunistic criminals.

Anyone with information about recent burglaries or suspicious behaviour is asked to contact Humberside Police on 101.
