Bridlington’s most enduring summer tradition is set to return this weekend as RNLI Bridlington Lifeboat Station hosts its annual Open Day — a community favourite that has been part of the town’s calendar for more than 50 years.
Running from 11am to 4pm, the event invites visitors to step inside the world of the RNLI, meet the volunteer crew and fundraisers, and explore the station’s impressive lifesaving fleet. Both lifeboats — the Shannon-class all-weather lifeboat Antony Patrick Jones and the D-class inshore lifeboat Ernie Wellings — will be displayed on the beach, giving families the chance to get up close and learn how they are used in real rescue missions.

This year’s Open Day features all the much-loved favourites, including stalls selling cakes and refreshments, a tombola, raffle and entertainment throughout the day. Bridlington Gold Radio will be at the Lifeboat Station providing music, entertainment and a great atmosphere for visitors, adding an extra buzz to the event.
Families can take part in a packed programme of hands-on activities, including welly wanging, the throw‑a‑bag challenge, the Ready Steady Crew dress‑up challenge and the ever-popular ‘Soak the Crew’. RNLI volunteers will also be on hand to talk about lifesaving at sea, answer questions and share vital water safety advice.

Bob Taylor, Bridlington RNLI Lifeboat Water Safety Officer, said the event remains one of the most important dates in the station’s year.
“The Open Day provides an opportunity for the community and visitors alike to learn more about the RNLI’s lifesaving work. It enables us to showcase our lifeboats, equipment and facilities, while highlighting the dedication, professionalism and commitment of our volunteer crew.
We are extremely grateful for the continued support of the public. The generosity of our supporters plays a vital role in ensuring that we can continue to provide a 24‑hour search and rescue service and remain ready to save lives at sea throughout the year.”
The event is free to attend, and all money raised will support the RNLI’s lifesaving work around the coasts of the UK and Ireland.
