Police Crack Down on Dangerous Driving in Bridlington Ahead of England Quarter‑Final
With England heading into the World Cup quarter‑finals this weekend, police say they’ve already had to step in after spotting dangerous driving across Bridlington and the wider East Yorkshire area.
Humberside Police have launched a targeted road‑safety operation as football celebrations ramp up, warning that officers will be issuing their own “red cards” to motorists who break the law.
The Roads Policing Team will be carrying out increased patrols around Bridlington’s pubs, bars, fan zones and busy routes, aiming to prevent serious incidents as thousands prepare to watch England’s next match.
Police say they’ve already seen examples of risky behaviour linked to match‑day travel — and they won’t hesitate to take action.
Among the offences officers say they will “never play on with” are:
🔴 Drink or drug driving 🔴 Not wearing a seatbelt 🔴 Using a mobile phone behind the wheel 🔴 Driving without a licence or insurance
A spokesperson said: “We know people are excited for the quarter‑finals, but we’ve already had to intervene with drivers making dangerous choices. We’re asking everyone to support England safely — one bad decision can change lives forever.”
Officers will be visible across Bridlington throughout the weekend, carrying out checks, stopping vehicles, and responding to any concerns raised by the public.
Police say they want the weekend to be remembered for football, not tragedy, and are urging fans to plan ahead, arrange safe travel, and avoid taking risks.
