A Bridlington man who forced his way into another man’s home before launching a brutal and targeted attack has been jailed for eight years and two months.

Jordan Shields, 36, of South Back Lane, admitted aggravated burglary after he and two other men stormed a flat on Middle Street South in Driffield in December 2025. During the attack, the victim had ammonia thrown in his face, was slashed with a knife, and stamped on with such force that his leg was broken. He also suffered serious injuries to his face and arms.
Shields pleaded guilty on the second day of his trial on 5 August 2025. He also admitted breaching an 18‑month suspended sentence imposed in November 2023 for possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Police were called at around 6pm on the night of the attack after reports that three men had forced their way into the flat and assaulted the occupant. Detectives from Humberside Police’s Criminal Investigation Department launched an extensive investigation, reviewing CCTV, carrying out house‑to‑house enquiries, and working with Crime Scene Investigators to gather forensic evidence.

Shields was identified after DNA left at the scene matched him. Working with the force’s Corporate Communications Unit, detectives issued a wanted appeal across police channels.

However, it was two response officers who ultimately spotted Shields in February this year, leading to his arrest on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. Further CCTV enquiries placed him and the two other suspects at the address within the timeframe of the

attack.

A search of Shields’ home uncovered an empty bottle of household ammonia hidden at the bottom of a wardrobe. Expert testing confirmed it matched the substance used in the assault.

While in custody, Shields refused to answer any questions during interview and was later charged with aggravated burglary before being remanded.

He has now been sentenced to eight years and two months in prison.
