Bridlington Kite Festival will return to the clifftops this spring, celebrating its 11th year with two days of colourful displays above the bay.

The popular family event will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, running from 10am to 5pm on Sewerby Cliff Top. Admission is free, and dogs on leads are welcome.

Now one of the East Coast’s best‑loved spring attractions, the festival will once again feature an array of kites in every shape, size and colour. Some of the world’s largest inflatable creations – including giant bears and towering snakes – are expected to draw thousands of spectators.

Alongside the professional displays, the much‑loved parachuting teddy bear drops will return. Visitors can also get involved themselves, with supervised kite‑flying sessions using loaned equipment or by purchasing their own from on‑site stalls.

The festival field will host a range of street food trucks, dessert stalls, ice cream vans, hot and cold drinks, fairground rides and family activities.

Parking is available at Sewerby Picnic Car Park (YO15 1ER) and Limekiln Lane Car Park (YO15 2LX). Visitors are encouraged to download the MiPermit app in advance for card payments. Several road closures will be in place in Sewerby village throughout the weekend.

Those travelling without a car can use the Bridlington land train, which runs every half hour between Sewerby Hall & Gardens and Bridlington Leisure Centre.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said:
“We’re proud to support this festival, which is a landmark event on the East Riding coast and draws thousands of visitors to Bridlington. We highly recommend residents and visitors attend and participate in the festivities.”

The event is organised by East Riding Council’s Visit East Yorkshire Events Team, in partnership with The Northern Kite Group, whose members provide many of the kites and choreographed routines. It remains one of the council’s largest annual events and provides a welcome boost to the local economy.
