Bridlington Residents Warned After Doorstep Fraud Incidents Reported Across Humberside

Bridlington residents are being urged to stay alert after two separate incidents of doorstep fraud were reported in the wider Humberside area.

In one case, a salesperson was knocking on doors in streets with a high number of elderly residents, offering to buy gold for cash. The caller was described as persistent and pushy, raising concerns that residents may feel pressured into selling valuables.

In another incident, a door‑to‑door salesperson claimed to offer cheaper gas and electricity, promising the first month free and no regular bills — instead asking customers to pay cash each month. Police warn that anyone who agrees could later face a large bill from their genuine energy supplier for unpaid charges.

⚠️ Say NO to Doorstep Callers

• If you feel threatened or intimidated, or someone refuses to leave, call 999 immediately.

• Use a door chain, viewer or smart doorbell to check who’s outside before opening the door.

• Never feel pressured to buy, sell or sign anything on the spot.

• Ask for ID and verify company details — it’s fine to say no and close the door.

• Set up a password system with your utility providers to confirm genuine representatives. Eligible customers can register for extra support through the Priority Services Register (PSR) — a free UK‑wide service.
