Police forces across England and Wales are set to receive a major cash injection next year, with the Home Office confirming funding could rise by up to £798 million. The increase will take total police funding to around £19.5 billion.Most of the uplift will go straight to local forces.

An additional £746 million has been set aside to help police focus on the issues that matter most to communities — including knife crime, anti‑social behaviour and the growing problem of shop theft.

Counter Terrorism Policing will also see its budget rise by at least £52 million, taking its total funding to more than £1.2 billion.

The Government says its Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee is already making a difference, with named, contactable officers assigned to every community, more patrols during peak times in town centres, and dedicated anti‑social behaviour leads in every force.

A detailed breakdown of how the money will be shared is expected early next year, following the publication of the Government’s Police Reform White Paper, which will outline plans to modernise policing with new technology and updated structures.

What this could mean for Bridlington

For Bridlington, the funding boost could translate into:

• More visible policing in the town centre, especially during busy periods along the Promenade, in the Old Town and around the Harbour.

• Stronger responses to anti‑social behaviour, an issue regularly raised by residents and local businesses.

• Better support for tackling shop theft, which has been a growing concern for retailers on King Street, Chapel Street and the surrounding shopping areas.

• Improved neighbourhood engagement, with clearer points of contact for residents and more consistent communication from local officers.

• Potential investment in modern policing tools, helping Humberside Police respond more quickly and effectively to incidents across the East Riding.

While the exact allocation for Humberside Police won’t be known until the final settlement is published, the overall uplift suggests Bridlington could see tangible improvements in day‑to‑day policing and community safety.
