Wildlife Photography of the Year

A world-renowned photography exhibition celebrating the beauty and complexity of the natural world is set to open at Sewerby Hall and Gardens this spring.
'Wildlife Photographer of the Year', now in its sixty-first year and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, will open on Saturday, 9th May. The exhibition brings together some of the most exceptional nature photography captured across the globe, showcasing hidden animal behaviour, rare species and breathtaking landscapes.
The internationally acclaimed competition, first launched in 1965, continues to attract huge interest, with more than 60,000 entries submitted this year from photographers of all ages and experience levels across 113 countries and territories. All entries were judged anonymously by an international panel of experts, with creativity, originality and technical excellence at the heart of the selection process.
This year’s winning images are now touring internationally and are expected to be seen by more than a million people worldwide.
Members of the public can also have their say through the People’s Choice online vote, which is now open. The winning image and four runners-up will be announced on Wednesday, 25th March.
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Now in its sixty-first year, we are thrilled to host 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' at Sewerby Hall and Gardens. The exhibition is a powerful platform for visual storytelling, showing the diversity, beauty and complexity of the natural world and humanity's relationship to it.”
Kathy Moran, Chair of the competition’s jury, added: “As an advocate for the power of photography, there is nothing more rewarding or moving than seeing our relationship to the natural world, in all its complexity and splendour, shared on the world’s biggest platform for wildlife photography.”
Dr Doug Gurr, Director of the Natural History Museum, said this year’s exhibition combines “great artistry and groundbreaking science”, thanks in part to the inclusion of the museum’s Biodiversity Intactness Index.
Sewerby Hall & Gardens
'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' will run at Sewerby Hall and Gardens until Sunday, 19th July.
Sewerby Hall House will reopen daily from Saturday, 28th March, from 11am to 4.30pm, with last admission at 4pm.
