With temperatures dropping, the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has now been activated across East Yorkshire.

The protocol ensures that anyone sleeping rough is offered safe accommodation during periods of extreme cold or hazardous weather. Local authorities are urging residents to be vigilant and to report anyone they see who may be at risk.

A spokesperson for the council said:

"SWEP is a vital safety net during dangerous weather. By alerting us, the public plays a crucial role in helping vulnerable people access shelter and support."

Residents are reminded that even a single call could make the difference between someone spending the night exposed to freezing conditions or being brought to safety.
