Humberside Police is urging anyone who lives, works or spends time along our coastline to support Project Kraken—a joint initiative led by the National Crime Agency, Police and Border Force to strengthen vigilance across the UK’s maritime environment.

With almost 20,000 miles of coastline, plus estuaries, rivers, coves, inlets, ports and harbours, the UK’s maritime network offers countless opportunities for terrorists and organised criminals to operate. Your local knowledge is one of our strongest defences.
Whether you sail, dive, fish, work in maritime industries or simply enjoy visiting the coast, you are well placed to spot when something isn’t quite right. Even the smallest detail could help us prevent criminals exploiting our shores, our communities and our livelihoods.

What to Look Out For
We are asking the public to report any behaviour or activity that seems unusual or suspicious, including:
• Crew members who appear nervous or unfamiliar with normal maritime procedures
• Vessels showing unexpected modifications or unexplained minor damage
• Increased activity at isolated coastal locations or at unusual times
• Attempts to signal to vessels offshore or guide them into hidden or unusual areas
• Strange or irregular payment methods, such as large cash transactions
• People showing an unusual interest in site security, structures or wharfs
If something feels out of place, trust your instincts and tell us.

How to Report Concerns
If you see suspicious activity in a coastal or maritime setting, report it to Humberside Police on 101, quoting “KRAKEN.”

In an emergency, always call 999.
Please record as much detail as you can—no matter how small it may seem, it could be vital.
