Humberside Police Adopt New Forcer Protocol to Protect Veterans and Serving Personnel
Monday 15th December 2025
By Bridlington Gold Radio
Humberside Police have today (Monday, 15th December 2025) announced the adoption of the nationwide 'Forcer Protocol', a life-saving initiative designed to safeguard UK veterans, serving HM Armed Forces personnel, and reservists who may be at risk of going missing due to acute mental distress.
The protocol, established in honour of Alan Forcer, a veteran who tragically took his own life, ensures that those who have served our country receive rapid, compassionate intervention when they are most vulnerable.
How the Forcer Protocol works
The scheme allows carers, family members, and friends to record vital information about a veteran or serving member, including:
- Known health conditions
- Triggers and stress factors
- Safe places they may head to in distress
- Contact details, associates, and frequently visited locations
This information, stored securely, can be handed to police immediately if the individual is reported missing, helping officers begin searches without delay.
Forms can be completed electronically or in hard copy, and should be updated regularly with new details and a recent photograph. If a loved one goes missing, families are urged to call: 101 (or 999 in an emergency) and tell officers they have completed the Forcer Protocol forms.
Bridlington’s stance
Bridlington, with its strong ties to the Armed Forces community, has welcomed the introduction of the Forcer Protocol. Local veterans’ groups and community organisations have long emphasised the importance of tailored support for those who have served. The town’s close-knit community often rallies together when someone goes missing, and this protocol provides an additional layer of reassurance that vulnerable veterans will be found swiftly and safely.
By adopting the Forcer Protocol, Humberside Police are recognising the unique challenges faced by veterans in Bridlington and across East Yorkshire, ensuring that no one who has served is left without support in their time of need.
Other protocols in place
Alongside the Forcer Protocol, Humberside Police continue to operate two other schemes designed to protect vulnerable people:
- The Herbert Protocol - supporting carers of those living with dementia by recording significant places and personal details to aid searches.
- The Philomena Protocol - helping locate vulnerable young people quickly by keeping essential information ready for officers.
A message from Humberside Police
Chief officers have stressed that nothing is more distressing than when a loved one goes missing. With the support of the public, who regularly share appeals and provide vital information, many missing people are found quickly. However, for the most vulnerable, these protocols provide an essential safety net.
“We are committed to doing everything possible to bring missing people home safely. The Forcer Protocol is a vital step in ensuring our veterans and serving personnel receive the care, respect, and rapid response they deserve.”
