All bathing waters across the East Riding of Yorkshire have been rated ‘Sufficient’ or better in the latest Environment Agency classifications, with five of the region’s nine beaches achieving the top grade of ‘Excellent’.

The results, published on Tuesday 25th November, reflect sampling carried out throughout summer 2025 and highlight notable improvements. Bridlington South has risen from ‘Poor’ to ‘Sufficient’, while Flamborough South has climbed from ‘Good’ to ‘Excellent’.

The Yorkshire Bathing Water Partnership—made up of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Yorkshire Water, and the Environment Agency—has been driving these improvements through investment and collaboration with local stakeholders to tackle pollution and protect the coastline.

Councillor Barbara Jefferson, cabinet member for heritage and coastal, welcomed the results:

“I’m absolutely delighted with these new water quality results. To have seven of our nine beaches achieving either ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’ is outstanding and proves just what a marvellous, clean, safe and attractive coastline we have here in the East Riding.”

Miles Cameron, bathing water manager at Yorkshire Water, added:

“This is a real positive step, particularly for Bridlington South. We’re investing heavily in local networks, including upgrades to Bridlington’s wastewater treatment works and storm overflows over the next four years, to ensure further improvements.”

Earlier this year, Bridlington North and South Landing were recognised with Seaside Awards from Keep Britain Tidy.
