The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Bridlington is calling on local residents to step forward and join its dedicated team of volunteers in the role of Shore Crew — a vital position that supports the launch and recovery of lifeboats during emergencies and training exercises.
With a proud 200-year history and over 50 awards for gallantry, Bridlington Lifeboat Station continues to be a cornerstone of coastal safety. The station operates both inshore and all-weather lifeboats, and every launch relies on the coordinated efforts of its volunteer crew — from the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Launch Authorities to the Shore Crew who ensure the boats are safely launched, refuelled, and serviced.
“This is more than just a volunteer role,” said a spokesperson for the RNLI. “It’s a chance to be part of a lifesaving legacy, to work alongside a passionate team, and to make a real difference in your community.”
What the Role Involves:
• Assisting with lifeboat launches and recoveries during service and training
• Maintaining safety around the launch area
• Supporting the upkeep of lifeboats, equipment, and the station itself
Volunteers must live or work within 20 minutes of the station and be aged between 18 and 70. No prior experience is necessary — just general fitness, a willingness to learn, and a team spirit. Full training is provided under the RNLI’s Competency Based Training Scheme, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
