Bridlington Rallies Around Injured Dog Bella After Fireworks Incident

A beloved black Labrador named Bella has become the heart of a community-wide show of compassion after she was injured fleeing fireworks and found days later on Fraisthorpe Beach.
Bella, a cherished family pet from Bridlington, ran off during a night of loud celebrations and was later discovered with serious injuries.
In a recent Facebook update, owner, Richard shared a mix of relief and concern: “Yesterday was a rollercoaster. Good news is that the fracture in her pelvis doesn’t need an operation and will be on bed rest for 4–5 weeks.” However, Bella still requires surgery to repair a cruciate ligament once her pelvis heals. She is expected to remain at the veterinary clinic until Sunday.
Although Bella is insured, the coverage falls short of her full treatment costs. In response, Tracy Roberts—who runs Bridlington Lost and Found Animals and has supported the family throughout Bella’s disappearance—launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the expenses.
“This isn’t something we wanted to do,” Richard said, “but due to the severity of her injuries, it isn’t cheap. Over 400 people have donated in just 14 hours. It’s totally overwhelming—most of them are strangers showing unconditional love for Bella. We’ll never be able to thank everyone enough.”

The family says they’ve been deeply touched by the kindness shown.
Another family member, Holly, said:
“We can't thank you all enough for the love and support we have received through this horrible time, we have been through hell and back as a family and knowing we had everyone's love around us has kept us going, Bella is in a bad way but getting all the love and treatment she needs in order to recover.”
